A fantastic new development on behalf of asra, comprising 103 new homes, of which 63 are Extra Care apartments for older people and 40 are affordable homes for rent and low-cost home ownership, has been created on the site of the old Wolsey Mill.
A difficult scheme that required the demolition of the existing structure whilst trying to maintain the historic corner of the building.
The Wolsey Building benefits from state-of-the-art eco-technology in the form of a bio-mass boiler system which runs on wood pellets, providing a heating system which substantially reduces carbon dioxide emissions. The new building has achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.Architecture2013 -

New build student apartments. Built on former railway sidings which used to run through the area, Upperton Road is a new development for a student halls of residence with 384 bedrooms, with ancillary office and common room facilities, including parking, amenity space and landscaping.
This project posed significant challenges. In addition to a fast track construction programme of nine months to complete Phase 1 of the development (80 bed spaces), there were a number of technical challenges to overcome to allow Phase
1 of the building to be occupied whilst constructing the remaining phases. Although Phase 1 is a seven storey
construction, it has been designed as a single stair building to allow for occupation to take place without reliance on
other phases. Allowances have been made in the design to provide for connecting other phases to the stair and lift
cores in Phase 1 to maximise travel distances / reduce the number of stair and lift cores / minimise circulation space to
optimise the gross to net floor areas reducing build costs.
