Description:

This exciting project involves the regeneration of an entire city block in the Digbeth area of Birmingham City Centre. The site lies close to the Bull Ring and sits on one of the principle routes into the city centre. The comprehensive redevelopment is based around strong urban design principles tied in with recognition of the site's long history. The origins of Birmingham itself lie in close proximity to the site and particular attention has been paid to the River Rea running through the site, one of the few rivers in Birmingham. The layout of the site is based around new and existing routes and two new public squares which tie the whole development together. At either end of the site focal points are created in the form of a new hotel and a brand new building which will contain a purpose built Irish Centre, replacing the existing Irish Centre on the site. In recognition of the areas manufacturing history, particularly in the processing of metals each of the six buildings on the site is themed with a different metallic process. This gives each of the buildings a distinct character whilst also unifying the whole site with a common theme. The whole development is mixed use in its truest sense with residential apartments, the Irish Centre, Hotel, Bars, Restaurants, Offices, Shops and a Spa all included, serving both the new residents of the development alongside the wider community. The development will bring enormous benefits to the Digbeth area and the wider city in general and will act as a catalyst for other developments in the area.
