Longlisted

Participants were invited to design a new visitor hub to mark the entrance to Langley Vale Wood, England’s First World War centenary wood. rg+p’s design, ‘Wood Takes Flight’, drew inspiration from the history associated with the site and suggests a building to emulate the shape of a biplane about to take flight. Located directly off the car park, the centre provides viewing platforms, catering, retail, office and ancillary facilities, and is proposed to sit on stilts above the existing landscape so as not to disturb local fauna and wildlife. From more than 500 entries, ‘Wood Takes Flight’ was longlisted to the final 20.
