Udine is a thriving city in north-eastern Italy. Its exhibition centre is struggling to keep the fast pace of the region, therefore Udine Fiere, the group controlling the exposition area, held a competition to fully regenerate the centre. In collaboration with Italian practice, Land Sistemi, rg+p’s design for the circa 800,000 sq ft space includes transforming the former exchange building into an auditorium, offices, restaurant and bar. A new façade is specificed to wrap the building as a ‘new skin’ whilst a steel canopy will connect all existing buildings.
This design won first place and work is now underway on the tender drawing pack.
